Twitter has changed and enhanced the way we do a lot of things. It’s changed the news and media structure with microblogging affecting how the news is reported. It’s given us a new way to help with our diets. It’s even helped people propose marriage. (I’m still in shock this is happening but that’s besides the point.)
Now, Twitter has done it again and taken the popular online blog PostSecret to the next level. PostSecret, for those of you who don’t know, is an ongoing community art project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. The administrator then posts these secrets for all to see.
Mat Honan from Wired posted this link for textgasm, the next generation of PostSecret. (Or as Mat says, Twitter + PostSecret + reddit) Here, you can share your secrets, in 140 characters or less.
In my opinion, I say bravo to the textgasm folks. They saw an idea that worked and combined it with another idea that worked. Brilliant.
What else do you think Twitter could help enhance in our daily lives? My ideas below and let me know if someone has already covered these and I missed it.
- Banking. I use Mint.com which is great to send me alerts on my accounts. Imagine if we could have a secure way to get our bank balance like mint.com does on our Twitter account.
- Shopping. Are the shoes I’ve been dying for finally on sale? Receiving a tweet to let me know I could drop everything and head to the store.
- Celebrity Sighting. I’ve had this conversation with friends before. If there was a way to tweet when someone spots a celebrity or a movie filming in the city, share it with Twitter. (Similar to Gawker Stalker)
