…or wine or vodka, or cola or orange juice. It’s not really the drink that’s the business benefit here; it’s the social interaction with colleagues. At a time when companies are cutting their budgets on everything from technology to tea bags, it’s important to still realise the value in getting everyone in the company, department or workgroup together away from the office in a social and informal way.
Time for tea – social interaction helps unite companies togetherworkgroup together away from the office in a social and informal way.
OK, so you wouldn’t normally have a drink with Andrew from accounts and it’s unlikely you’d ever spend a Saturday night with Harry from HR, but getting together for a party, kickoff event or just a general shindig has far-reaching benefits. By having days of informal social activity, ending perhaps with a beer or cola or two means that the people within your organisation are more likely to integrate and interact. It’s much more likely that you’ll help Andrew from accounts with a problem if you have met and chatted to him, than you would if he was simply a person on the end of the phone, from the other end of your company whom you have never met before.
By promoting inter-company activities you give staff not only the opportunity to make more friends, but create a greater opportunity for your company to become properly integrated and therefore more efficient and, hopefully, a happier atmosphere to work in.
Cheers to that!
