Everyone at the Bite offices is slightly tired this morning after we held our ninth year of PlayBite yesterday in London.
PlayBite is our annual shindig where we bring journalists and vendors together in a posh exhibition hall to chat, get news and views, show off products and generally catch up with all things technology. This year’s show was a resounding success, thanks to some hardcore efforts from the team.
Our exhibitors went out of their way to showcase some great stuff. We had SanDisk with a huge ice sculpture of a camera, with some of its memory cards frozen inside, which they proceeded to break out of the ice at the end, and use; we had Fujitsu showcasing its latest version of a biometric mouse, which uses the palm of your hand to gain access to your data on a PC and we had Sony Vaio showing off its thinnest, lightest laptop ever and a great new party docking station for its cameras that follows faces around the room.
One of the most exciting things was the new technologies that we had showcased at the event. We had the glorious Palm Pre on show and from the feedback and twitter comments, lots of the attending journalists enjoyed getting their hands on that. We also had Dyson, with its latest innovation – a handheld vacuum cleaner that actually works. And, one of the best things was the inventor who accompanied Dyson, who has invented the flat plug. Tired of having his ultra thin computer laptop and having such a bulky plug to go with it, he invented the flat plug (this first featured in Wired UK a month or so ago.)
The cocktail of consumer and business-to-business brands worked well together, with Harman/Kardon showing everything from its low-end head phones to the high-end stereo systems (playing some great tunes, I might add). And Kingston Technology, which is launching a consumer web site to work alongside its corporate brand.
All in all, the event was a smorgasbord of new innovation, married with tried and tested technology and not forgetting the must-have gifts for Christmas.

Thanks to everyone who went along to make this such a great event and here’s to next year’s PlayBite – bound to be a biggy to celebrate our 10 year anniversary!
