Everybody gets funky

December 14, 2009 by Sara Driscoll · 4 comments

Last Thursday was the Bite UK Christmas party, and well, it’s taken us until now to fully recover.

Never one to miss out on an opportunity to do fancy dress, the UK team donned our glad rags, our disco dresses and (in one extreme case), our silver all-in-one body suits, and got in the mood to P.a.r.t.y.

We kicked off with a traditional Christmas dinner in a local pub; a glass of champers followed by a delicious starter of asparagus, followed by traditional Christmas turkey with all the trimmings and polished off with a white choc cheesecake.

Then it was time for the main event.  Roller Disco.

At last, our weird and wonderful outfits had found a place to feel at home – the funky vibes were oozing out of the roller disco entrance doors.    As we all grabbed our skates, it became obvious that while some of us were born to whizz around the rink with ease, others were destined to slip, slide and crash, and this was just getting onto the rink.  There were bruises galore for the novices and, strangely, as the evening wore on even those who had been confident on their feet began to get slightly more wobbly.

To enjoy photos of our outfits, our dinner and our roller disco-style clumsiness see the video below:

Cracking effort team. Bezza as a young Jimmy Saville is pretty special.

Splendid! By the way, one of the better opportunites for embarrassment in the US for expats is the fact that Fancy Dress here = Black Tie in the UK. I believe it’s a ‘Costume Party’ in the US. And if you tell your friends you’re going to put on your swimming costume, you can get some very strange looks. ‘You wear a costume to go swimming?’
