Pranav Kumar joins as Managing Director

New Delhi, February 28, 2011 — Bite, the global communications consultancy, will open its doors in India on March 1, and will be led by former Gutenberg Communications vice president and head of India, Pranav Kumar. Retainer assignments in India include HP’s corporate innovation and sustainability brief, along with ongoing campaigns for Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), the Richard Ivey School of Business, Siemens PLM Software, and SWIFT.

Initially based in New Delhi, the company will establish offices in Bangalore and Mumbai in the coming months. Bite will bring its integrated Point of View communications approach to the India market. Bite recently acquired digital agency Onexeno and is progressively rolling out its expanded digital services throughout the Asia Pacific region.

At Gutenberg, Pranav Kumar helped grow the agency from fewer than five employees in India to more than 30. Prior to that, he worked for Sapient Corporation, Genesis Burson-Marsteller and the International Management Group (IMG).

“Bite is entering the India market at an exciting time. Digital is beginning to transform the way brands communicate, whether in B2C or B2B contexts,” said Pranav Kumar. “We aim to cater for clients who demand that their compelling stories be told across the range of vibrant national and regional print and broadcast media, but also want to shape valuable conversations with stakeholders using earned, owned and paid digital channels.”

He further added, “An increasing number of corporations, brands and business leaders aided by India’s robust economic growth and globalization, realize the value that strategic communications counsel backed by solid execution rigour can bring to the table. Bite’s passion to deliver high-quality and creative campaigns, razor sharp focus on digital and an entrepreneurial, lively culture really excite me to take on this opportunity.”

“The communications landscape in India is unique, yet fundamental changes are at work. The last thing the market needs is just another PR agency,” said Clive Armitage, Bite’s Chief Executive Officer. “We’re looking to work with people and clients who recognize the potential for compelling communications to change the game for businesses and industries in India.”

Bite’s India business will be managed as part of its existing network of five offices in Asia Pacific – in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Sydney – reporting to executive vice president Paul Mottram.

What Google taught me this morning about self-publishing

February 25, 2011

Today Google started rolling out a new tweaked version of their search algorithm that will impact about 11% of all search results. The update is designed to reduce the impact of content farms and link-bait that can artificially raise the search ranking for sites.
In Google’s words:
“This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites [...]

Put down your chopsticks! I need to take a picture first!

February 24, 2011

I remember a Western friend once said “If you find anyone taking pictures of food, they must be Chinese.” He is not talking about food photographers, but people who take pictures of nearly every single dish they have at every single meal. Sounds familiar? Yes, as a Chinese living in this food paradise called Hong [...]

Tea, Earl Grey, Hot

February 23, 2011

I catch a fair share of grief for being unapologetically nerdy. Really nerdy. It took me a long time to shake off the “Second Life guy” label. People make fun of my electric bike. They ask me if I have spilled coffee on myself. I deplore and despair of the Kardashians.   And so on. At [...]

Are your spokespeople socially inept? It’s time to stage an intervention…

February 22, 2011

Of course I don’t mean to ask if the spokespeople for your organization can’t hold their own at a swanky cocktail party. Rather, how well they can navigate the nuances of social media. Take for example the post my colleague Nadia Saint wrote just the other day about the Kenneth Cole saga…
For many years now [...]
