LONDON – December 9, 2009

Bite Communications has expanded its client portfolio by winning the UK launch brief for the Virgin Group’s first new company in the UK for 3 years – Virgin Digital Help (http://www.virgindigitalhelp.co.uk) – in a competitive pitch.

Virgin Digital Help has been set up to help British consumers solve problems with their digital stuff. The service includes downloadable self-help tools, online and phone support, and home visits across the UK. It will be built on a technology platform and support infrastructure developed by Sutherland Global Services; and consumers will be given free access to anti-virus and security software from AVG Technologies. A broad range of digital devices and services, including computers, wireless routers, smartphones, and gaming devices will be covered at launch.

Bite’s brief will see it work directly with Marketing and Customer Service Director, Tim Dowling and CEO, Joe Steel to deliver a core on and offline launch programme, through a mix of creative ideas and core research. The first initiative Bite will be undertaking is driving media relations activity in the consumer lifestyle and technology press in the run up to the Christmas gift-giving season.

The account will be headed by Rachel Gilley, Director, who commented: “Winning the Virgin Digital Help account has been incredibly exciting for the agency. We have developed an integrated digital and traditional campaign to launch the brand and importantly a campaign that will maintain momentum post launch. Virgin Digital Help is a service that directly tackles the love/hate relationship consumers have with their technology. The service is genuinely unique in the sense that there is no other offering in the market currently providing this level of technical expertise, combined with Virgin’s heritage in customer service.”

Joe Steel said: “Bite’s enthusiasm to work with us on such an important launch, coupled with the creativity they showed through the pitch process made the decision to choose Bite as the PR agency of choice, an easy one. We are working with a group of smart agencies to launch this unique new service and it was important that the PR agency we chose strengthened our ability to execute perfectly.”

E400k annual budget to cover lead agency campaign planning and local market implementation

LONDON – November 12, 2009

Bite Communications has been appointed by Harman Consumer International to centrally manage and deliver PR programmes across Europe for three of its most sought after high-end consumer electronics brands. The remit currently covers JBL (speakers and multimedia systems), AKG (headphones) and Harman Kardon (high-end home entertainment and theatre systems).

Acting as a central content creation and management hub, Bite will also implement campaigns in the UK and Sweden, whilst working with partner agencies to promote the Harman International brands in France, the German speaking countries and Benelux regions.

Bite beat Edelman, Cake and two other agencies to win the business and was chosen for its consumer technology, digital and international experience.

Bite’s brief will see it work with European PR Manager Ashley Douglas to formulate and implement a mix of creative brand and product-led campaigns, and manage the agency network. The first initiative will be for Bite to focus on driving media relations activity to increase lifestyle coverage of the JBL, AKG and Harman Kardon brands, whilst also supporting the important Christmas gift-giving season.

Commenting on the appointment, Ashley Douglas, European PR Manager, said: “It’s an exciting time for Harman Consumer International right now, with many changes afoot marking a new era for our brands. The appointment of Bite signifies yet another leap forward in our marketing and PR. With Bite’s help, we’re moving way beyond product PR and will execute integrated, creative campaigns which reposition our product portfolio at the heart of the music and lifestyle experience. Furthermore, we’ll be doing this consistently across our key European territories. As a combined in-house and agency team, we’re really excited about what the future holds.”

Harman Consumer International has built its reputation on being a leader in innovation and technological breakthroughs. The company has positioned itself as a market leader in infotainment systems, branded car audio, professional audio and entertainment products. A key challenge for Bite will be to identify how Harman Consumer International’s professional messaging can be tailored and communicated to drive awareness of the JBL, AKG and Harman Kardon brands.

Kath Pooley, Managing Director, EMEA at Bite Communications said: “We are thrilled to have been appointed by Harman Consumer International to handle its European PR for the JBL, AKG and Harman Kardon brands. Each of the brands are category leaders in their own right and have a unique story to be told. The opportunity to drive awareness of the Harman story across Europe plays perfectly to our consumer technology heritage and international proposition. We also see a great opportunity for Harman to use a range of social media and digital PR tools to drive product awareness, tap into new audiences and create a consistent buzz around the products in the key European markets.”

London and Hong Kong, October 27, 2009

Bite Communications (“Bite”), the multi-channel communications consultancy, today announced that it has completed acquisition of a majority share of Upstream Asia’s (“Upstream”) Asia Pacific communications network, via its parent company Next Fifteen.

Upstream’s offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney will begin to re-brand as Bite from November. Upstream’s management team will remain in place, with David Ketchum, president, Asia Pacific, joining the Bite Communications group board and executive vice president Paul Mottram running operations in the region. Bite’s former Beijing team is being integrated into Upstream’s Beijing office to form a single expanded team.

Bite is now able to deliver comprehensive global reach for its clients and enable Asia-Pacific-based brands to grow on a global scale by adding Upstream Asia’s offices to its current network, which includes offices in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Stockholm and Toronto. In addition to geographic coverage, Bite will incorporate Upstream’s blue-chip clients to its roster, ranging from Skype and HTC in consumer technology, to Qantas and Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts in travel, and SWIFT in the financial industry.
“Geographically, professionally, and culturally, we knew Upstream would be a great fit with Bite from the beginning of our discussions,” said Clive Armitage, CEO of Bite. “Our clients have strong needs in this growing region of the world, and our new presence in Asia Pacific will complement our already strong coverage in the United States and Europe, making Bite a truly global player.”

“Joining a worldwide network is a natural next step in our team’s development, and by being part of Bite we can enhance our capability for clients and our growth,” said David Ketchum. “We share similar perspectives on the way forward in the changing media and communications landscape, and we both see opportunities to deliver a fresh, new approach to the market.”

Armitage added: “Bite and Upstream clients will now have the opportunity to extend their programs across multiple territories and benefit from in-country experience, giving them the chance to work with a single agency just about anywhere in the world with more resources, better infrastructure, more services and a bigger talent pool.”

LONDON – October 21, 2009

Bite Communications has expanded its client portfolio by winning the UK launch brief for new service VoucherHub, in a competitive four-way pitch. The brief adds to Bite’s existing experience working with digital brands such as Playfish and 4Music.

VoucherHub is an interesting new player in the online voucher sourcing and distribution arena. VoucherHub, a sister company of its US equivalent, Retailmenot, provides a refreshingly simple yet content-filled alternative for savvy, consumer spending; with an added community factor of being able to comment and vote on vouchers accordingly. The scope of the brief will include Bite executing an intensive online traffic drive from October to December, leading to prime positioning in the consumer arena in the run up to Christmas.

The account will be headed by Rachel Gilley, Director, who commented on the win: “We are extremely excited to work alongside VoucherHub, especially as the sole representative of what we feel is a brilliant addition to the UK consumer spend market. We have developed an integrated online and offline campaign to establish and grow the brand’s presence in line with targeted online traffic figures over the next three months. The team are genuinely eager to get cracking on a range of creative concepts aimed at establishing VoucherHub as a market leader in the lead up to Christmas.”

Alex Rabarts, Managing Director at VoucherHub, said: “The fact that Bite has proven expertise in delivering consistent results for digital brands, combined with their great ideas for the campaign will ensure some impressive results.”

Major win for combined Bite/Inferno team demonstrates new agency proposition

LONDON – April 28, 2009

Logica has appointed Bite Communications to handle its UK PR and elevate its profile across the communications channels. The account was awarded following a five-way pitch and is the first for the combined Bite and Inferno team.

The brief is to deliver a campaign which capitalises on the success of Logica’s transformation programme. Progress to date has already seen Logica build a strong sales culture which unites all aspects of its business – vertical markets, horizontal services and its high-growth areas.

Bite’s role will be to externalise the ‘One Logica’ message and demonstrate Logica’s value proposition, skills and customer successes to external stakeholders.

The Bite account team structure will include a core team of media relations experts who have direct experience in the IT services sector and vertical markets. Bite will also deliver added-value services through a team of specialists covering editorial services, analyst relations, speaker bureau, broadcast PR and digital expertise. The team will be led by Kath Pooley, MD of Bite EMEA, working with directors Paul Mackender and Tom Berry.

“The combined Bite and Inferno proposition was hugely compelling to us,” said Rima Awad, UK Head of PR and Media Relations at Logica. “We are passionate about the Logica brand and are absolutely clear about our vision for the future. It’s critical that the PR keeps pace with the rate of change we’re experiencing internally and capitalises on the opportunity we have to build on our world-class brand. Bite’s approach, which was to build a team of specialists who could take our message out through both indirect and direct channels, was completely refreshing. The team understands and is as enthused as us about what can be achieved with the PR and we’re excited to have them as part of our extended team.”

“This is a significant win for us in many ways,” said Kath Pooley, MD of Bite EMEA. “Logica was a highly contested pitch because it is a great brand and has a fantastic story to tell. The fact this is our first combined win as a merged Bite and Inferno makes it even more special for us and we feel positive that the relationship will thrive over the long-term.”

Experts from Retail, Technology, Travel and Automotive Sectors Join Panel to Discuss How to Navigate Brands through the Great Recession

SAN FRANCISCO – April 27, 2009

Bite Communications, the multi-channel technology communications consultancy, today announced it will be hosting its next BiteBash event in San Francisco on May 12th to discuss communications strategies to survive the downturn. The Panel discussion will be attended by thought leaders from a range of sectors to discuss the evolution of their marketing and communications programs to deal with the challenges presented by the current economic climate.

“This event is designed to bring together a group of marketing innovators from a range of different industries to stimulate a discussion on a topic that needs to be front of mind for everyone right now – how can we use marketing as a tool to bolster your organizations brand and survive the financial storm we find ourselves in the middle of,” said David Hargreaves, General Manager, Bite Communications North America. “As well as the role traditional marketing tools can play, much of the discussion will focus on the impact new and digital marketing techniques are set to have. Social media is the one area of the overall marketing pool that organizations still seem prepared to invest in highlighting the increasing importance business place on using these tools to reach a diversity of audiences.”

‘The Great Recession’, the most dramatic term coined yet for our current economic situation, is a global issue that has left no industry untouched by falling budgets and job cuts. The event will focus on how marketing and communications – both digital and conventional – can prove its value in times of economic uncertainty with panelists offering their own unique view on what brand managers should be doing today to preserve their budgets and communications tomorrow. The following executives will be joining the panel:

Karen Kahn, Vice President Global Communications, Sun Microsystems

David Weiskopf, Vice President, Corporate Communications Charles Schwab

Rachel Konrad, Senior Communications Manager, Tesla Motors

Will Aldrich, Vice President, Product, TripIt

Keely Wachs, Senior Director, Corporate Communications, BrightSource Energy

The BiteBash event is being sponsored by the American Marketing Association – the largest marketing association in North America. Mark Evans, President-Elect, American Marketing Association commented: “Organizations of all sizes across all sectors have been slashing marketing budgets since the first signs of this crisis loomed. While experts suggest that businesses should invest more in marketing during a downturn to take advantage of competitors cut backs, the knee-jerk reaction is to reduce expenditure wherever they can. BiteBash will provide a fascinating insight into how different industries plan to tackle this particularly difficult period and emerge out of the other end unscathed.”

The event will be taking place on May 12, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. For more information please contact Jason Clarke at 415.365.0400 or register by visiting http://bitebash.bitepr.com/events/surviving-the-storm/

Agencies combine strengths to deliver new communications model to the market

LONDON – April 21, 2009

Bite Communications Limited (“Bite”) and Inferno Communications Limited (“Inferno”), both wholly-owned companies of Next Fifteen Communications Group PLC, today announced that they intend to merge on 1 May 2009. By bringing together two highly successful agencies under one umbrella, the merger will accelerate Bite’s growth trajectory and further enhance its position in the UK market.

“The merger was conceived as a decisive response to these rapidly changing times. Agencies must be dynamic, agile and prepared to make big decisions. With communications at the heart of every brand’s development, there is a huge opportunity for PR agencies to become centres of strategic consultancy excellence,” commented Clive Armitage, CEO of Bite. “Add to this the developments in social media and the resultant requirement for human and interactive dialogue and it becomes clear that the right PR agency – with the right skills in narrative and storytelling, combined with the multi-channel expertise to take these conversations to market – will be incredibly well positioned now and in the future.”

Bringing together Bite and Inferno will deliver a new engagement model designed to meet the diverse challenges of this ever-shifting landscape. This model will be predicated on distinct areas of specialism that will include content, broadcast, analyst relations, corporate positioning and speaker bureau, underwritten by Bite’s renowned digital expertise that is woven into the fabric of each and every one of its campaigns.

In addition, the merger will bring an injection of senior resource and expertise that will dramatically expand Bite’s capabilities and reach. For Inferno, joining Bite will provide its clients with access to deeper executive resource alongside Bite’s client service teams, as well as access to Bite’s seven offices around the world.

Grant Currie, Inferno’s founder and managing director, will assume a position on the global board of Bite reporting directly to the CEO. He will be responsible for the continued development of Inferno’s tier one clients, as well as providing strategic services to Bite’s global client base. Paul Mackender will take on the role of deputy managing director, Bite EMEA, and will focus on developing the EMEA business supporting Kath Pooley, Bite’s managing director for EMEA.

Kath Pooley, managing director, Bite said: “With this merger Bite has shifted up a gear, exploring powerful new possibilities that will deliver an unbeatable competitive edge in our market. The combined strengths of the two agencies brings to the marketplace an incredibly compelling proposition that will provide existing and new clients the perfect mix of people and skill-sets to address all their communications needs and challenges in this new, complex, world. The new agency that emerges from this process will embrace this evolving landscape, particularly around our shared vision of delivering innovative, audience-centric, channel-neutral communications. In addition, the merger will provide a springboard for Bite’s aggressive growth plans in EMEA and further enhance the career opportunities for Bite and Inferno staff domestically and internationally.”

Grant Currie, managing director, Inferno added: “Inferno is really excited about the merger and joining with Bite. An emphasis on a strong and dynamic culture lies at the heart of both agencies, borne of having been part of the same Next Fifteen family since our formation and having maintained close working links. Over and above this, the new agency brings together all the strengths and depth of skills that clients expect in the modern communications consultancy and positions us incredibly well as a real force in the new world of content and conversations.”

Several clients of both agencies have already expressed excitement in what a combined company would be able to deliver for them. Alison Perkins, head of PR, Microsoft UK commented: “We view the Inferno and Bite merger as a strategic step forward that will help us meet our own ambitious communications objectives. For us, the advantages are clear: we get to keep the strong, core Inferno team that has provided us with stellar service for the last six years, while gaining access to the rich expertise of Bite and its senior consultants. The communications landscape has changed dramatically over the last year and this merger shows smart thinking that will benefit not just Inferno and Bite but their entire client roster. And I look forward to Microsoft being one of the first beneficiaries.”

It is anticipated that the majority of Inferno’s clients will transfer into Bite as part of the merger. At the close of the merger, the expected combined client roster of the two agencies will include AMD, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Sony, Sun Microsystems and Symantec.
